Picture Perfect

Recently, in my Lies Young Women Believe study, I read about the lie that beautiful girls are worth more. Even though I know that's not true, sometimes it's easy to be sucked into that lie. One of the challenges in the companion guide on that particular day was to draw or describe your image of a "picture perfect" woman. What physical features might she have that would add more value to her appearance? That really made me think about which parts of my body I might be dissatisfied with that I really need to be content with because my body is God's temple and He created me in His image. So this week, I want to ask you to leave a comment on this post describing your idea of a "picture perfect" woman or girl, or say which parts of your body you wish were different because then you might be "more beautiful". Remember that you can leave your comment as "Anonymous", so don't be afraid to share your thoughts! To be continued with this months beauty tip...

I regularly wish I was thinner. I do eat need to work on my eating habits, but I shouldn't be discontent with the way I look. Also I am often discontent with my face. I sometimes pride myself on my eyes (a little vanity there ;), but the rest of my face I often wish was prettier. So on the whole I wish I was thinner and had a lovelier face. But then I remember that God looks at the heart...But still I'm discontent because I wonder if I'll ever get married if I'm not pretty...So I really need to work on that. I think everyone does.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't help comparing myself to other girls, even though I'm not overweight. It's important to have healthy eating habits, but once you are taking care of your body the way God intended you to, you just have to let your weight, or body image go and commit yourself to God. I also understand your fear of never getting married. I've dealt with the same thing. However, think about this- if a man was to marry you just because you were nice to look at, do you think he would really be a good husband? A good man should look at your beautiful character- not so much your outward appearance.

You're right. Actually, on the Modestly Survey I've had a lot of the same encouragement. I mean, it's just so wonderful to me to know that modestly and Godliness DO matter to guys! Thanks. :)

Well, I have not perfect legs. I have a birthmark on my foot and I have a scar on my right knee. But I keep reminding myself that they can remind me to not be vain. I don't have a blemish free body, so then I don't fill myself with pride that I do. The blemishs on my body remind me that the outside doesn't matter, the inside does.

Lexi, your comment just reminded me that our imperfect bodies are just a reminder from God that we are wasting away here on earth and this is not our home! Think about how much we have to look forward to in Heaven!!
